Welcome
to golfing heaven. With over 200 golf courses
to choose from throughout the Principality, Wales
really provides true golfing connoisseurs and newer
players with everything they are looking for when
planning a break to the 'Land of My Fathers'.
Wales has many excellent courses, beautiful surroundings
go hand in hand with a warm welcome where ever you
choose to tee up. The choice is outstanding
and ranges from picturesque parkland courses to more
challenging downland links courses.
An
increasing number of golfers from abroad have been
discovering that Wales has more fairway pleasure to
offer than they ever expected - and the same can be
said for Welsh golfers who have been making the same
voyage of discovery because, to be truthful, we had
been loath to share our golfing secrets even between
ourselves.
The
area of South Wales plays host to some real historic
milestones within the game of golf. The Glamorganshire
Golf Club, situated just outside the magnificent and
beautiful capital city of Wales, Cardiff, has a special
affiliation with the great game. It was here
that a gentleman by the name of Mr Frank Stableford
designed a brand new format of scoring back in 1898.
The Stableford points system is now played world wide
by golfers.
Of
course, its not just amateur golfers that are attracted
to the area, some of the most famous professional
golfers have shown off their golfing skills at some
famous venues over the years, Royal Porthcawl has
hosted many tournaments and has seen the world's best
golfers battle their way around this classic links
course. In 1995 it hosted the Walker Cup match
between Great Britain & Ireland and America.
This was one of the last amateur appearances of the
great Tiger Woods.
The
Celtic Manor golf complex is a relatively new addition
to the area. The complex consists of three courses
all of a championship standard. The jewel in
the crown at the Manor is the newly completed Wentwood
Hills course which has already hosted the European
Amateur Championships, the Wales Open and has been
awarded the Ryder Cup in 2010. The 1991 US Masters
champion Ian Woosnam is the attached professional
to the club and has had a hand in the design of all
three courses along with the world famous designers,
the Trent Jones family. A trip to the Celtic Manor
is a must when on holiday in the area. See our weekend
special deals.
With
all this situated in Wales, a golfing holiday to the
'Land of My Fathers' is one that once experienced
will never be forgotten. A return visit will be a
must.
